The CKF Fest is a one-day event -- no camping. It is held at Los Alamitos Bay in Long Beach. This is a great spot, right on the beach, with parking close by and hoses and facilities to wash your kayak off after the fun.
People usually begin arriving early in the morning to get a non-metered parking space on the street. Those fill up quickly, and then you have to park at a meter in the beach parking lot, and feed the meter quarters periodically throughout the day. This is not a problem, as the parking lot is right next to where we'll be, as long as you keep track of the time.
This is a pretty laid-back day. Leisurely short paddle around the Naples area of Long Beach (protected waters), chance to sell or buy used gear that other members bring, lunch (used to be potluck, apparently we may get it catered this year), sitting around on beach chairs talking, watching people paddle, etc. In past years there have been events like a pie-eating contest (the first to finish eating then jumped in their kayak to do a quick lap in the bay; first back to shore was a winner) and a kayak tug-of war with teams. Sometimes Steve Wilson and son provide a few songs. Usually our honored Prez gives a speech. Don't know what the activities will be this year.
This is a very different event from the kayak symposium in San Diego. The Fest is geared toward getting to know other CKF members in a relaxed setting, not taking classes or learning skills. You can participate in as many or as few of the activities as you want. We're usually done by 3 or 4 in the afternoon.
Hope this helps until Steve can post a link.
Beth

I agree with Chuck...
With all the hoopla and vague references to this fest I think it is in order to post a link to the fest's web site or to another source on the web for the info. The date seems a bit last minute and I for one needed to plan to be able to attend.
So, for those who may be able to still attend... how about a link to solid info?
Also, it seems that another venue may be in order as camping sites seem to fill up extraordinarily fast and it seems one needs to bring a bag full of quarters to participate as well...

Forgive my ignorance (but I am a newbie still) but what is the fest? And
where is the fest?
