I think Lee had the best camera angle for this event. I was on the other side and missed almost all of it until Steve punched through and then went over. With the waves blocking my view, I had no idea that Steve got hit so many times and by such strong waves.
The other advantage of shooting from shore is that you can be there to cash in on Dumpy's post carnage salvage sale. I've heard you can get some really good deals on sunglasses that are only missing a lens, and paddle pieces are really cheap.

Do what I did.
I mounted a Evinrude Black Max 175 on my kayak. I get right on through that surf zone lickey split. (I also use it when I paddle with Duane and George Miller!)

p.s Lee, try shooting towards shore for a different viewpoint. I did it this weekend and it is a great vantage point It's a riot to see people bust through the waves!
