[CKF Info] The Price of Fun

Tony,

I just work on the fact that the Olympus has never let me down.

I am aware of the issue's you all post and I understand completely but a
lot of this boils down to personal preference and what your comfortable
with.

I don't shoot any video as I prefer good still images. For me these
cameras are fun toys and not much more. Something to throw in the bag,
head out with and bring home the fun. If I'm getting serious in the
water I still shoot film with my Nikons or pack my D200 in a bag. There
again I was just talking to a guy who dislikes them (Nikonos) because
they are a hassle to load and unload, in his eyes. I have clients who
like film as you can take it farther unless you want to spend around 10
grand getting into a Canon Mark V with an underwater housing.

In the end you have to work with what your comfortable with. No
different from a paddle or anything else. I just love to shoot!

Thanks for the info,

billy

Hi

Just to share my experience:

I have a Pentax W20 and an Olympus mju 720SW. (It's mju in Asia and
Stylus in America.) I got the Olympus first.

IMHO,
The Pentax takes better pictures than the Olympus.
Both are waterproof but the Olympus is shockproof while Pentax is not.

So the Pentax can't take a beating like the Olympus, but I prefer the
pix from Pentax. Thus, I almost always use the Pentax W20 for pictures
and the Olympus for backup.

For me, the Pentax W20 registered a fully charged battery as depleted
(after about 6 mths of use). After the agent changed the circuit board,
(under warranty) it was ok.

Regards
Tony Seow

I don't know why you people keep buying those Pentax cameras. I have had
my Olympus 770SW for a very long time, shot hundred of images and not
one problem. I liked it so much I went ahead and upgraded to the 10mp
one. I now have a great Olympus 770SW with box and all for sale for
$150.00. Call me, you won't be sorry you did.

The only good pentax ever built was the film based K1000. I tried to
upgrade to the MX but they kept blowing up with the motor drives and
that was their pro level camera.

Try an Olympus, you'll never go Pentax again.

If you look Pentax up in the dictionary you will see this definition:
JUNK! HA!!!

For no apparent reason, my Pentax Optio W30 came home from my Catalina
trip dead as a doornail. I'm hoping I'll have luck with the warrantee
service. (yeah right!)

As a result of my fun from last Sunday, the Goodship Lollygagger is
leaking/sweating along a 6 inch hairline crack along the keel of my bow.
You could whine and cry "woe is me", but I prefer to look at the bright
side: any water I take into my front hatch will be compensated by the 6+
dripping holes I found along the keel in my back hatch! Didn't bother to
look for holes in the cockpit; that's what the electric bilge pump is
for!

Then there's the broken Onno...

Did I say "woe is me"?

Actually most of it occurred having a lot of fun, so it's hard to be too
upset. Really, I'm only POed because I lost another sponge!

Mark
