Thanks Henry, Kathy, and Jane. It's amazing how many solid paddlers you brought together. Everyone in the group new what they were doing.
After rounding the jetty with the massive flotilla Duane told Henry he was heading out to sea to look for Blue Whales. I had planned to play in the surf and rocks along the way to tune up for next weeks PV rock garden paddle but in the dense fog it wasn't hard to convince me to head out in search of Blues and some clear sky.
About two miles out we broke through the fog bank into pristine blue sky's over deep blue waters. Three miles out we stopped, looked, and listened but no whales. Soon we begun to see common dolphins. After a while they seem to be in all directions. Whenever they were close I put on my mask, took a couple of deep breaths and rolled over hoping to see them under water. I was fascinated with the under water movies Duane shot recently of the dolphins coming up to his camera.
We were headed back in when we were approached by a few dozen more. This time I was in luck. I rolled over to take a look. The water was clear. It was beautifully blue just hanging around upside down. All of the sudden two dolphins swam into few. They came straight at me veering off just a few feet away. With my mask on I got a great close up look at them. They shoot off disappearing as fast as they appeared.
It's moments like this that make everything worth while.
