Hi DeeAnn,
We are neighbors practically, I live in Anaheim Hills too! Nohl Ranch &
Serrano to be precise. If you don't get your Sea Kayaker tomorrow, get on
the phone and give them what for!! I had to call Canoe & Kayak once to get
an issue that never came!
My wife and I went paddling for the 1st time less than a year ago. My kids,
(15 & 18, they live in Colorado) were out for a summer visit and we all
decided to take Southwind's "Harbor Tour" paddle, just for S's & G's. We had
such a blast that my wife & I took their "First Strokes" class later and
began renting from them most weekends.
We attended many of Southwind's demo weekends, and rented many different
models over several months trying to find just the right fit for us.
We signed up for the SW Kayak Symposium in San Diego this year, and boy, was
that fun and enlightening!! We took the 'Beyond the Basics" class and had a
ball! I paddled the Necky Looksha 17 and loved it way more than the WS
Tsunami's and Perception Eclipse's I'd been renting from Southwind. It
wasn't but several weeks later that REI had it on sale and I picked one up.
Meanwhile, the Mrs. was still trying to figure out which boat she liked
best. She tried the WS Tsunamis, the Perception Eclipse and Carolina, the WS
Tempest, and the CS Storm and Squamish. Last month we decided to head to San
Diego again to try some Neckys.
We camped out at Campland and went to Jen's (Aqua Adventures,) on a Saturday
morning to try out some boats. Suzy there was really great and helped Trudy
(my wife) try out the Looksha 14 and the Looksha 17. We rented the 14 for a
day and took it back to Campland for some extended paddling. She really
liked the handling and manueverability, but the cockpit was a bit cramped
for her. When we returned the boat she promptly ordered a Looksha 17 in lime
green. This was just a week ago we picked her boat up, and took a nice
paddle along the Newport peninsula for her maiden voyage.
We would LOVE(!!!) to come along on a Back Bay paddle, this is Trudy's
absolute favorite place! Please let us know when the next one is! Of course
I'll keep my eyes peeled here for any news on one.
Thank you so much DeeAnn for the warm CKF welcome!
Looking forward to seeing you on the water soon,
Neil & Trudy

Hello Neil,
Welcome to CKF. Lucky you! You've already received your Sea Kayaker
Magazine. I live in Anaheim Hills and I haven't received mine yet. I
usually get mine about a week later than everyone else around here. At
least I have something to look forward too! My husband and I are relatively
new kayakers too. I've been paddling with CKF for about a year now. I still
consider myself a newbie. How new to kayaking are you? What are you
paddling? I hope you'll join us on one of the Newport Back Bay paddles. We
meet at the Newport Aquatic Center. Usually Wes and Debbie Shimizu host the
Back Bay paddles. They helped me get started and have introduced me to the
kayaking world. Hope to see on the water sometime.
Welcome to CKF,
Dee Ann

Hi all,
Well my new Sea Kayaker magazine came today, (2 months is a long time
between issues!) And as I came back from the mailbox with it I noticed on
the cover an article about Catalina Island. Cool, I thought, I'll have to
check that out, after I read the safety article to see what kind of deep
trouble people got into lately. :-)
So as I got to page 31, I was thrilled to see by the byline it was our own
Duane Stosaker that penned this piece. And what a poetic opening in those
first 2 paragraphs!
I'm new to the club and know nobody yet, but I did get to witness Duane's
didgeridoo stylings and mini stand-up routine 'round the campfire at this
year's Southwest Kayak Symposium, so it should be no surprise that he's a
skilled journalist, too. Thanks Duane for an enjoyable and informative read!
I look forward to being able to find a chance to meet up with you all at an
appropriate paddle for my newbie skill level.
Cheers,
Neil Schneiderhan
