Bakersfield George met me at the Coast Guard Beach Friday afternoon. Howard of Sharon showed up as we were getting ready to launch. He said he would catch up with us so we departed. Howard must have put the hammer down as he caught us at Arch Rock. I over dressed to make myself roll repeatedly. It worked. The sea was just bouncie enough to keep it from being boring (not that any day on the water is boring). We paddled only a half miles further then turned back to return to one of the coves in the harbor to do a little more practice.
Back at the cove we rolled some more and I did a reentry roll to prepare for the rock garden party with Happy Jack, Speedo George, and Artic Lee this Sunday. I think Billy Kroll is coming down to take some pictures of the event. I will try not to embarrass myself on camera again. It is worth noting for all of us that we must continue to practice the things we think we know. I recently missed a critical combat roll that I should have made. I just haven't been getting out regularly enough to practice.
Before we headed back George and I traded boats. He loved the Mariner Coaster. Once you go Mariner it's hard to go back. The new low volume Avocet that George was trying out from the Southwind stock was not a good fit for me. A fun, twitchy, quick acceleratingly boat that would be good for a smaller person. I would not recommend it to a beginner as it requires driver input but the higher volume version has always been a design I like.
I plan to do these Friday after work paddles on a semi regular basis. Look for postings on Thursday nights, I never know if my schedule is free before that.
A great way to end the work week and start the weekend,
Steve (not feeling so old this morning) Wilson
