Many thanks to Dee Ann Hess for organizing this paddle!

This was the inaugural CKF paddle for us, Trudy and Neil, new members,
and we are both very grateful to all involved for making us feel very
welcome! Participants in today's excursion were Dee Ann Hess, Win and Carol
Aldrich, Wes Shimizu, Judy (in the Manitou,), Judy (in the Cape Horn,) Trudy
Olson and Neil Schneiderhan. Sorry Judies, for missing your full names
somehow.

Weather was June gloomy at the 9:30 meeting time, but quickly burned off
into mostly sunny skies with a steady breeze out of the west at 8-10 kts. We
paddled from the Newport Aquatic Center south and around Balboa Island,
shortcutted through the Grand Canal, then headed back behind Harbor and
Linda Isles and returned to NAC. After a little break, Carol worked on her
roll, Dee Ann got some extensive coaching from Win on a couple of different
re-entry methods, and Neil and Trudy both pulled their first solo paddle
float re-entries under Wes' tutelage.

Most of us afterwards adjourned to the Bluffs (Fireside, no fire today,
thanks,) for a leisurely lunch and chat. Trudy and I thoroughly enjoyed our
first CKF paddle, and getting to know Dee Ann, Wes, Win and Carol
afterwards. Thanks again to all involved for a wonderful day on the water!
