Conditions could not have been better for playing in the
rocks Sunday. Everyone was on their game. Mark nailed his first rock garden combat
roll. Congratulations Mark!
George was recovering from being under the weather. You would not have known
that from the way he handled his boat.
Lee was right in there from the start, dancing his boat around the tight spots
right behind Jack. Lee did the first two combat rolls of the day, looking like
a cool headed pro up close and personal with the rocks.
Billy was all over the place with his camera from land and sea. It was like
having the National Geographic along with that big impressive camera.
At the north end of the big pool we played and played up against a tight wall
and corner. The fishermen and tide poolers stopped to watch us. We all had big
grins on our faces as we circled taking our turn inside.
Listening to Jack’s words of wisdom I didn’t go anywhere he
didn’t recommend no matter how tempting. Today I learned to relax in close, to
feel the ocean and let the flow of the sea do the work. Over rocks, over falls,
and up on the rocks waiting for the sea to return and release. Learning to
put my nose in close to a big rock as the swell rises up and over the top you
go without effort. Zen Master Jack made us all feel comfortable and safe. Even
though we were in close quarters with each other with rocks on three sides we
were paddling safely. I love my Coaster more all the time. If felt like an extension
of my body today. I have never had better boat control.
I landed first back at the launch site. I stepped out into
there to four feet of water, hung on to my boat during the surges and carefully
stepped up through the slippery sometimes moving boulder field. It was a little
hard to find my land legs about then. I carried my boat up out of the boulder
field without dropping it. George landed right after me. George and I
helped land and carry Marks boat to safety. Soon Billy came in. Mark, Billy,
and I fought to get his pontooned boat up on and out of the boulder field. I was wore out by
then and there was still that hill (cliff) to climb. Soon Jack and Lee appeared
and landed without any problem.
Thanks Jack, Lee, George, Mark, and Billy that was a day I
won’t forget. We will soon announce the next Rock Garden Party. We plan to work
around the rocks in the Laguna Beach
area. Come on out if you can. It is fun just to watch or you can engage at your
own level of confidence without endangering yourself.
