[CKF Info] Alternatives to more sensitive 'members only' discussions... --was-- Re: CKF: Email list is coming to the 21st century

Hey Henk,

"but some of the threads should have been
restricted to members I think. For PR purposes we still have
the trip reports and photos on our website."

I agree with this, though it is rather time consuming for an admin to approve/filter each topic.

There are a couple ways to get around this.

  1. Create another members only list... not many would like this probably.

  2. Create an online web forum with member and non member discussion areas. I can help with this as I have created many.

  Peace,
  Scott

PS: I can give a link to an old one I created for the CI National Marine Sanctuary as an example to get the idea across to them. Though they shot the idea down as their lawers wouldn't support it and some members are 'timid' when it comes to technology.

When I started this thread I was not thinking of harassment, more
about things like (bad) product reviews, or cutting and pasting
copyrighted material. Your mother might not know that there
could be a problem with that.

Then again, if that were a serious problem you could fine half
the internet population. On the other hand, there have been
heated debates on the CKF list that don't belong on a world
wide archive, I think.

I have 7252 CKF messages in my box, would like not to have
to keep them on my disk so an archive would be nice. I also
still have all SBKA archives somewhere while I only have been
a member for a few years. Lots of fun reading material and good
reference material but some of the threads should have been
restricted to members I think. For PR purposes we still have
the trip reports and photos on our website.

Anyway Lee mentioned offline that you have to sign up for the
list and the archive, which is just right IMHO. It's not really a
big issue for me.
