Subject: [CKF Info] Carpinteria Paddle on Sunday

Just a reminder to all that I am hosting a paddle from Carpinteria City Beach this Sunday to Lookout Park and back. This is about an 8-9 NM trip. There is usually mild, small surf at Carpinteria and it is advertized as “The safest beach in the world”. If you have had a class in surf launches and landings, this is an ideal place to get some practice. However, please check the marine forecast later in the week. Dumpy has been known to visit this beach and almost everybody I know has had a tumble or two out here at some time. The current forecast is:

SUN...SW WINDS 10 KT...BECOMING VARIABLE 10 KT OR LESS. WIND WAVES
2 FT OR LESS. W SWELL 3 TO 5 FT

We will be meeting at 8:30 for a briefing and launching at 9:00. Remember that parking is on the street and can get a bit crowded on nicer weekends.

After the paddle, we’ll stop for lunch at either our favorite restaurant (Thai) if they have opened yet, or a local Mexican restaurant that we enjoy when the Thai one is closed.

Your showing up to paddle with us indicates that you agree with the following:

This is not a CKF or any other club sponsored paddle. We will have experienced paddlers on this trip, but they will not be responsible for telling you what is or is not safe for you to do. We watch out for one another and assist one another, but all individuals are responsible for, and manage their own safety. This responsibility includes assessing your gear, skill level, and physical conditioning relative to conditions and location, as well as making decisions about what you will or will not do.

Participants acknowledge that kayaking on the open sea is inherently dangerous and can lead to physical injury including death as well as property damage. Injuries include but are not limited to: Drowning, hypothermia, physical injury from surf, rock collision, boat collision, high seas.  Participants, their heirs and assignees, agree to hold the announcers and other participants blameless in the event of such injury, damage or death.

Please RSVP so we know who to wait for.
