This morning, Jane Hardy, Peggy Peattie, and Teresa Boli organized a well
attended, SDKC, get-wet practice day in Mission Bay. Everyone met at Aqua
Adventures and paddled across the bay to Mariner's Basin. The session
focused on bow rescues, traditional T-rescues, and the variatio of coming up
between the boats. Contact tows, rolls, and scramble recoveries were also
practiced. After demos, everyone paired off to practice. Old Salts such as
Mike Brown and Dennis Hyndman paired off with newer padders and everyone got
wet. I was impressed at the progress many had made since the last session I
attended. Interestingly, there was not a GP in sight. We San Diegans must be
reluctant to give up our EP's. After the session, Jay Murdock led a short
paddle while several racers went to a final, forward stroke coaching session
before next week's Bay2Bay. It is encouraging to see the increased number of
San Diego Paddlers and strong, new leadership of the SDKC.
