Like you, I always felt that way in the past when Len was coordinating things.
What I didn’t know and I attempted to alert everybody to with my “Save
the Date” email that I sent out, was that the City of Long Beach, which
has to issue us a permit to use the beach, works in their own time.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

city and asked them to issue us a permit for one of them. It took until today

that we just had in San Diego. It’s more along the lines of just one big “Paddle
Fest” where many of the club members get to meet other members they don’t
usually get to see. We hold it at Long Beach because that seems to be the
central geographic point of the club. After all, the bulk of our membership
comes from the area between San Diego and Santa Barbara.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

is some free parking on the street, but those spots fill early because we are
not the only ones that use Alamitos Bay. It’s a popular location. That’s

Passover, Cinqo de Maya, and spring break. We could hold it in the winter, but
many of our members don’t paddle in colder weather. We also have to avoid
the Southland Kayak Center Expo dates and REI’s demo days. When you
combine that with all of the other organizations looking to hold things on the
bay, you can see how we get limited.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
